Dwarves

The dwarves are short and greedy beings that were worms in the prehistoric giant Ymir's body. Like goblins they fear the sun. The dwarves are often evil-minded, but they are talented smiths and they have forged mostly of the aesirs treasures. They live in knotholes and caves, some of them in Svartalfheim. Svartalfheim


Alfrik The artistic dwarf Alfrik has together with Berling, Dvalin and Grer forged Freya's incredible Brising necklace. To get the jewellery she spent one night with each of them. Brising
Alvis Alvis is one of the wisest dwarves. He is known for demanding to marry Thor's daughter. Thor then gave him questions until the the dangerous sun raised. Alvis means 'power and wisdom'.
Andvari Andvari owned the Nibelunggold and a magic ring, Andvaranut, but these got stolen by the gods. Then Andvari spoke a deadly curse to the ring's future owners. Andvaranut Frananger
Austri Dwarf that has been put in the skies east corner by Odin, Vili and Ve. The sky is made out of the giant Ymir's head. The name Austri means 'east'.
Berling Berling forged the lovegoddess Freya's Brising necklace together with the dwarves Alfrik, Dvalin and Grer. The payment was that she spent one night with each of them. Brising

Durin Durin is one of the most mighty dwarves. He knows the destiny of the old dwarves. Together with Dvalin he forged the magic sword Tyrfing. Tyrfing
Dvalin Dvalin is one of the most powerful dwarves. He was also a skillable smith and able to read runes before any other dwarf was. He forged the Brising necklace and Tyrfing. Brising Modin Tyrfing
Eikinskjaldi   Eikinskjaldi was a skillfull artist. The name Eikinskjaldi means 'he with the oak shield'.
Eitri The dwarf Eitri is son to Ivaldi and brother to Brokk and Sindri. Eitri is, like most dwarves, a very skillfull smith.
Fjalar Fjalar is a mean dwarf who with the help of Galar kills the giant Kvaesir. They make the mead of poetry of his blood, but they later get forced to give it away.
Galar Galar is a mean dwarf who with the help of Fjalar kills the giant Kvaesir. They make the mead of poetry of his blood, but they later get forced to give it away.
Gandalf Gandalf is told to be the eighteenth of the prehistoric dwarves. The name means 'magician'.

Ivaldi Ivaldi is the emperor of the dwarves and father to Brokk, Eitri and Sindri. He has the children Idun, Bil and Hjuki with his wife Hildegun. His name means 'the one who has power'.
Lit Lit is a small dwarf that ran around when Balder's funeralboat was pushed in the sea. Thor was in a bad mood and he kicked the dwarf into the fire.
Nordri Nordri has been put in the skies north corner by Odin, Vili and Ve. The sky is made out of the giant Ymir's head. The name Nordri means 'north'.
Regin Regin is the son of Hreidmar and brother to Otter and Fafni. He killed his father, and later on the dragon Fafni, with the help of Sigurd Fafnisbari and his sword Gram, to get the Nibelunggold.
Sindri Sindri is son to Ivaldi and Brokk and Eitri is his brothers. They are skillfull smiths and lives in a knothole in Yggdrasil's lowest branch to the east.
Sudri Sudri has been put in the skies south corner by Odin, Vili and Ve. The sky is made out of the giant Ymir's head. The name Sudri means 'south'.
Vestri The dwarf Vestri has been put in the skies west corner by Odin, Vili and Ve. The sky is made out of the giant Ymir's head. The name Vestri means 'west'.
Volund Volund was a skillful smith that had forged both the magic ring Andvaranut and the sword Gram. He was kept in prison for a time by king Nidud, but the smith revenged deeply and got free. Andvaranut Gram
