Aesirs

The mead-drinking and life-enjoying aesirgods have lived in Asgard since it was created. The gods are strong, beautiful and bigger than ordinary people. They live longer than us, but they are not immortal. Every god has knowledge in different categories. They are good, friendly and helpful. The vanirs who has lived in Asgard for a long time also counts as aesirgods. Some of the most important aesirs are Odin, Thor and Frey. The name aesirs seems to come from tree or roof ridges that were used as god statues. One early explanation of the name was that they were "Asia-men" meaning from Asia. Asgard Ansuz


Andhrimnir   Andhrimnir is a cock that every night slaughter the boar Saehrimnir. The meat is given to the hungry warriors in Valhalla. Andhrimnir means 'the one with soot in his face' Eldhrimnir Saehrimnir

Bor Bor is son to Buri, a giant who was created when the cow Audhumbla licked at a stone. He is married to the giantess Betsla and the father of Odin, Vili and Ve. Bor means 'the son'. Betsla
Bragi The skald Bragi is god of poetry and the husband of the lovegoddess Idun. Bragi spent a lot of time singing and drinking mead. He has a long beard and he is Odin and Gunnlod's son. Idun
Buri Buri, who originally came from the stone the cow Audhumbla licked at, is the father of Bor, who is father to Odin, Vili and Ve. Buri means 'good-looking, great and huge'. Audhumbla
Byggvir The god of bjuggbeer and bjuggcorn, Byggvir, is married to Beyla. He is Frey's servant and lives at Frey's farm Alfheim. His task is to take care of the world mill and it's grist. Alfheim Beyla
Forseti Forseti, Balder and Nanna's son, is the god of justice. He is great on solving advanced quarrels and he is chosen to be the chairman at the aesir's thing. Forseti means 'the presiding one'. Glitnir
Frey The vanir Frey is a fertilitygod and decides everything's rate of growth. He is Njord's son and Freya's brother. He is the god of passionate love and he is married to Gerd. Heimdall Heimdall is the god of fire and the guardian of the Bifrost bridge. He sleeps less than a bird, he can hear the grass and see hundreds of miles away. He was given birth by nine wavedaughters. The name Heimdall means 'the world's glory'. Bifrost Gjallarhorn Gulltopp Himinbjorg Kenaz
Hermod The brave Hermod is the son of Odin and Frigg. He was the one who got the task of Odin to ride down to Nifilhel to get Balder home when he had been shot by his brother Hodur. The name Hermod means 'the fast'.
Hjuki Hjuki and his sister Bil have been sent up to the moon with a bowl full of mead. There they follow the moon on it's way around the earth. Their parents are Ivaldi and the disir Hildegun.
Hodur Hodur is Odin and Frigg's blind son. He is known for shooting his brother Balder, with a mistletoearrow. The brothers becomes friends again after Ragnarok. Hodur means 'war'.
Hoenir Hoenir is a handsome, but not so clever god. He was left to the vanirs along with the wise Mimir after the vanirwar. The vanirs take Hoenir to their leader, but when they finds out how stupid he is they kills Mimir.
Magni Magni, son of Thor and the giantess Jarnsaxa is incredibly strong. Magni kills Nidhogg in Ragnarok which he survives with his brother Modi. The brothers inherits Mjollnir. Magni means 'the powerful'. Gullfaxi
Meile Meile is Thor's relatively unknown brother. The name Meile means 'milestepper'.
Modi Modi is Thor and Sif's son and brother to Magni. They both survive Ragnarok and takes Thor's powerful hammer Mjollnir with them. Modi means 'the brave'.
Nep Nep is the father of the moongoddess Nanna, who is married to Balder. The name Nep means 'bitter cold'.
Njord The vanir Njord rules the sea, conflagrations, winds and storms. He has ten children, most famous are Frey and Freya. He is Frigg's brother. He has been married to Skadi. Noatun
Od Od has two beautiful daughters, Hnoss and Gersimi, with the pretty fertilitygoddess Freya. Some say that Freya cried golden tears when he left her. The name Od means 'the furious'.
Odin The one-eyed Odin is the aesirs leader and the highest god. He is married to Frigg and have six sons and one daughter. Odin created the world and the first humans with his brothers. Skirnir The vanir Skirnir is Frey's servant. Skirnir rides to Jotunheim to get the giantess Gerd for him. He gets Frey's horse, Blodighofi, as a reward. Skirnir means 'the beaming one'. Blodighofi
Thor Thor, the god of thunder, is Odin and Frigg's oldest son. He is married to Sif and have the sons Modi and Magni and the daughter Thrud. He is strong and have temperament, but he is always fair. Tjalfi The skillful runner Tjalfi is not an aesir, but a human boy. He lives in Bilskirnir with Thor and Sif. Roskva is his sister and Groa and Egil Skytten his parents. Tjalfi peronifies the arrow. Tjalfi means 'the little Tell'.
Tyr The one-handed and very brave Tyr, son of Odin and Frigg, is the best soldier and leads the army of Asgard. His weapon is the sword. In Ragnarok he kills Garm. Tyr means 'god'. Tiwaz
Ull The handsome god Ull is Thor's wife Sif's son. He is the god of huting and winter. He is often seen wearing his snowshoes. His major weapon is a long bow with a sunbeamarrow. Ull means 'the glorious'. Yew Dales
Vali Vali is the son of Odin and the giantess Rind. He is often called Balders Revenger and he might have killed Hodur after he killed Balder. All brothers becomes friends again after Ragnarok.
Ve Ve is Odin and Vili's brother and together they created the world. He is son of Bor and Betsla. He gave the first humans, Ask and Embla, their sight and hearing. Ve means 'holiness'.
Vidar Vidar is son of Odin and Grid. He is quiet, strong and known for his ironshoes. He killed the Fenrir wolf in Ragnarok which he survived. Vidar means 'he from the forest'. Thicksole Vidi
Vili Vili is son of Bor and Betsla and brother to Odin and Ve with whom he created the world. He gave the first humans, Ask and Embla, their intellect. Vili means 'will'.
