Ragnarok

When Mimir didn't longer guarded the well from intruders, it got filled up with leaves and Yggdrasil's middle root started to rot. One day the stubborn dragon Nidhoggr managed to gnaw of the root to the north, the one besides the spring Hvergelmir. The fates started to worry, they noticed that the worldtree Yggdrasil started to get yellow and the Urdawell's water started to loose it's shine. Aesirs, giants, humans, alves...everyone worried. The only one who was calm was Odin, who had his eye in the Mimir's Well and had seen what was about to happen, and he had also realized there was nothing to do. The temperature started to sink and the aesirs saw more often a snow covered Idavoll.

Then the day finally came when Odin decided to let the others now and he called for all the gods and told them that Yggdrasil started to get old. He told them that Hel's ship Naglfar soon was ready which would lead to Fimbulwinter, three winters in a row without any summer inbetween. And after that Ragnarok. Then a couple of hundred years passed by and the spring came later and later. The autumn came earlier and earlier. The summer became shorter and shorter. And then there was two winters in a row and the gods understood that this was the time. The humans were freezing. The blackalves were freezing. Even the aesirs were freezing. In June the mead froze in Valhalla. In July Saehrimnir got deepfreezed. The Urdawell freezed to the bottom and the fates were shivering. In September the weather suddenly changed. Storm and rain was allaround the exhausted worldtree. The ship Naglfar got visible in the mist. The wolves Skoll and Manegarm got closer and closer to Sun and Moon, who they had been chasing for so long. Suddenly one of Yggdrasil's branches broke and fell down over the Jormungand serpent's back. It immediately let go of it's tail. The Fenrir wolf and Garm broke their chains. All giants helps to let Loki free from the mountain where he is tied. Nidhoggr starts to run with clumsy steps straight towards Asgard. Behind him marches all the giants. Heimdall, who sees all this, takes up the Gjallarhorn and starts to blow.

The aesirs grabs their weapons and waits at the Field of Vigrid. The fallen warriors from Valhalla marches out on Tyr's command. Bragi and Njord takes a stand beside Tyr and then it all starts. The leader of the firegiants, Surt rides towards the badly armed Frey. Frey sticks his dearhorn through Surt's eye, but then Surt kills him with his flamming sword. Thor's son Magni sends a killing arrow heading for Nidhoggr's head. Side by side Odin and Thor fights Fenrir and Jormungand. Odin put his spear Gungnir in Fenrir's chest, but the wolf throws Odin at the ground. Thor kills Jormungand with Mjollnir, takes nine steps backwards and falls down, poisoned by the serpent's ether. Tyr kills the wolfdog Garm. Vidar takes revenge for Odin. He puts his big shoe in the wolf's mounth and use use his sword from the inside. The enemies Loki and Heimdall threw their spears at eachother at the same time and both died. Modi gets surprised surrounded by giants, but Mange and Vidar is soon there to help him out.

Suddenly the survivors notices that it has become quiet. The wind increases. A wind from the west bent the ashtree to the east. The Bifrost bridge fell apart. A wind from the east bent the ash to the west. Then Alfheim, Folkvang and Noatun broke. A wind from the south bent the ash to the north. Then Lidskjalf, Fensalir and Bilskirnir collapsed. A wind from the north bent the ash to the south. Then the last root of Yggdrasil broke. The worldtree fell. All aesirgoddesses came running from all over the place. Suddenly Odin's daughter Saga shouted and pointed. From the blackalves territory they could see fireflames rising. Idun understood that it was Brokk and Sindri's forge that had turned over and that the dry tree was now on fire. Vidar headed for Nidhoggr, found Frey and took the ship Skidbladnir out of his pocket. He unfolded the ship and helped the others to get inside. Modi and Magni took the rudder. They were almost at sea when Naglfar became visible in front of them, but Vidar managed to steer away from the ship. They continued to sail away from the world...

After sailing for a long time they saw shore. Once again they were standing at the Field of Vigrid, but this time without the others. It was only Vidar, Modi, Magni, the brothers Vali, Hodur, Balder and the humans Life and Lifelust that was left.
