Thor and Rungnir
One day Odin was in Jotunheim just riding around on Sleipnir. The giant Rungnir saw him and shouted that his own horse, Gullfaxi was much faster than Sleipnir. Then he asked if they should compete. Odin agreed and they decided that the loser would lose his head. This wasn't foolish at all of Odin thou he knew that Sleipnir was the fastest horse in the world. Odin won, and the following giant was so upset that he didn't even noticed that they had gone inside the walls of Asgard. When they were there Odin said that Rungnir could drink some beers with him. In the beerhall Freya came with the beer in a big horn, the same that Thor used. Rungnir soon finished the beer horn and demanded to have another one. It didn't take long until he was really drunk and started to boast that he could lift up Valhalla and bring it home if he wanted to. He also said that he could aswell kill all the aesirs, except Sif and Freya. He planned to take them to Jotunheim and marry them. The gods started to get tired of Rungnir's shouting and called for Thor, who soon came and said that he'd love to smash Rungnir with his hammer. Then Rungnir started to tease Thor because he threatened an unarmed. Instead they could meat at Grotunagard, which was exactly between Jotunheim and Asgard, some days later. When Rungnir got home all the giants started to build an assistant to Rungnir. He was built by claw, and he was nine miles tall with a three mile wide chest. They gave him a real horse heart to make him alive. They called him Morkkurkalve. The day of the fight came and Thor arrived in his wagon drawn by goats. The skillful sprinter Tjalfi had started earlier in the day to see if Rungnir was about to do anything stupid. When Tjalfi saw Rungnir stand at Grotunagard with his stone shield in front of him and with a flintstone in his hand, Tjalfi realised that Thor would have problems to know where to throw his hammer. Tjalfi then told the giant that this wasn't a good way at all to meat Thor, because he always attacks from below. The giant believed what the boy said and put the shield on the ground to stand on it. I the same second Thor came and the horrifying Morkkurkalve got so afraid that he peed in his pants. But Rungnir threw the stone at the same time as Thor threw his Mjollnir and the both weapons met in the air making a noise that was heard several miles away. The hammer smashed the flintstone in thousands of pieces and then it did the same with Rungnir's head. One peace of the flintstone got into Thor's head and he lost his balance and fell. The heavy giant body, now without a head, fell with his leg right over Thor. All the aesirs who had come to watch tried to move the enormous leg, because they saw that Thor was running out of air. The gods knew that something had to be done, and it had to be done fast. They sent for Magni, Thor's three days old son. Even if he wasn't old he had showed surprisingly power. Magni came and he lifted the giant's leg as easy as if it had been made of cotton. Then he asked the gods why they didn't sent for him earlier so that he could have killed the giant himself. Thor gave his son Rungnir's horse Gullfaxi as a reward, even thou Odin told him that the horse was to fast for a child, these kind of gifts was better for fathers. To get rid of the flintstone piece in Thor's head he went to Aurvandil's magicskilled wife Groa. She started to sing and Thor felt that the piece was almost lose. He wanted to thank Groa in some way so he told her that he had seen her husband Aurvandil the same day telling him that he was on his way home. He wouldn't have told Groa this because when she heard of her man she became so happy that she forgot all the magic songs. And the flintstone piece stayed in Thor's head.
