Thor and the ferryman
One day when Thor is on his way home from his giant hunt in the East he come to a strait. The ferry man is Odin himself. But he is disguised as an old man, and he is terribly rude. He stands on the other side of the water with his ferry and tells Thor that he has got strong directives to only let good, known people over. Not bandits or horse thieves. Thor tells him who he are, but Odin states that he has no idea who this Thor is. A word duel bursts and Thor starts to brag about his big strength and his achivements. Odin, in turn, boasts about affairs with women and magic skills. He also makes fun of Thor with a lot of malicious comments. For an example he says that he gets the fallen rich mens, while Thor only get the adoration of people from slave families. When Thor looses his temper and is about to weave his hammer at the runde ferryman, Odin tells him that the one he should go after first is the seducer of his wife. The makes Thor even more angry. The quarrel ends with Thor having to walk round the water instead. Related Links: Mjollnir Thor Odin |
