Volund was a skillful smith who had forged the magic ring Andvaranut and Sigurd Fafnisbari's sword Gram. When the rumors about his treasures had reached king Nidud he decided that the smith should work for him. And one night the kings men came to pick him up. He was taken to the islet Savardstad were he was forced to forge beautiful things for the king. They cut of his heel strings so that he wouldn't be able to escape. This made Volund bitter and all he could think of was revenge. Once the king sent down his two sons to the smith. Volund told the sons that he wanted to show them something deep down in a chest. When the sons bent down to look Volund slammed down the lid. The smith made two beautiful drinking glasses of the heads and he gave them to king Nidud and his wife. They drank happily without knowing it was the heads of their own sons. The days passed by and then the king sent down his beautiful daughter Bodvild to the smith. With her she had a broken ring that she wanted him to repair. Volund gave her
mead and then he raped her. Then he stepped into a feathercoat and flew away. He stopped at the way out of king Nidud's territory and told the king what he had done. When king Nidud heard this he fell down on the ground where he stayed in his sorrow.
